چکیده

The present study investigated the ability of DNA barcoding to reliably identify endemic freshwater species in Turkey, known as biodiversity hotspots. barcode region (652 bp) mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) was used 153 individuals from 13 morphologically identified genus Alburnoides . Based on Kimura two-parameter (K2P) evolution model, average interspecific distance (0.0595) 31-fold higher than intraspecific (0.0019). There a clear-cut gap (0.0158–0.0187) between maximum ( A. tzanevi and velioglui ) minimum nearest-neighbour freyhofi kurui for Anatolian common genetic threshold 0.0158 sequence divergence defined delimitation. multiple delimitation methods (ABGD, ASAP, GMYC bPTP) revealed total 11 molecular operational taxonomic units (MOTUs) morphospecies. Neighbour-joining (NJ), Maximum Likelihood (ML) Bayesian Inference (BI) tree analysis indicated that all haplotypes were clustered into two major clades, which corresponded eleven clusters, with strong bootstrap support. Furthermore, specimens concurrence morpho-taxonomic status species, except coskuncelebii emineae differentiated, but showed overlap variation COI-based data other species. Overall, results is effective identification cataloguing Turkey.

Alburnoides manyasensis, sp. n., is described from the Koca Stream (Lake Manyas drainage, Marmara Sea basin) in Anatolia. It is distinguished from all species of Alburnoides in Turkey and adjacent regions, Alburnoides tzanevi (Rezovska [Rezve], Istranca and Terkos streams in the western Black Sea drainage), Alburnoides cf. smyrnae (Banaz Stream, a drainage of Büyük Menderes River, Aegean Sea ba...

The Species Dilemma of Northeast Indian Mahseer (Actinopterygii: Cyprinidae): DNA Barcoding in Clarifying the Riddle

BACKGROUND The taxonomic validity of Northeast Indian endemic Mahseer species, Tor progeneius and Neolissochilus hexastichus, has been argued repeatedly. This is mainly due to disagreements in recognizing the species based on morphological characters. Consequently, both the species have been concealed for many decades. DNA barcoding has become a promising and an independent technique for accura...
